My scientist friends from the North Pole sent me a picture today. They are now two month in Ny-Ålesund on Spitsbergen.

They are dressed with a lot of clothes despite it is summer. They told me that it is very cold outside. So they have to wear warm shoes, thick trousers, sweaters, jackets, hats and gloves. They have to be very careful because staying warm is important for the health.

They live in a pretty blue house, in a small village where everyone is a scientist and all the houses are colourful. People come from all over the world: Germany, France, Norway, Italy, Korea, and many more. “It is very nice to hear everyone speaking their language,”Michael Lonardi tells me through the phone. It is very important that they all work together because there are so many things to learn, and everyone can contribute in its way.

My friends are there to study the atmosphere, what happens in the air above our heads, to understand how the clouds and the wind work. There are also people studying the ice, the water, the animals, and everyone is very curious, like me.
